Call for proposals for the employment of New Immigrants and Returning citizens as Physicians and Researchers under the auspices of the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption and The Chief Scientist of the Ministry of Health
In accordance with the policies of the Government of Israel that places “priority in strengthening and developing the northern parts of Israel”, the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption, by means of the Center for Absorption in Science and the Chief Scientist of the Ministry of Health will grant 4 scholarships for the absorption of medical doctors (new immigrants as well as returning citizens) in hospitals in the northern areas of Israel, who will dedicate half of their working hours to research.
Eligibility:A new immigrant, who is a medical doctor holding the degree of M.D and PhD, who has been in Israel for less than 9 months on the day of application.ORA “returning citizen” who is a medical doctor holding the degree of M.D and PhD, who has been in Israel for less than 3 months on the day of application. (Preference will be granted to Israelis who have been abroad for more than 5 years). ConditionsCandidates will be chosen on a competitive basis by a board headed by the Chief Scientist of the Ministry of Health. Candidates will be graded according to the quality of their research proposals and their suitability to achieve research independence at the end of the program.The chosen candidates will be employed 50% as clinical doctors and 50% as a researcher in one of the hospitals in the northern region of Israel.The grant is for a three year period and the candidate will be required to submit progress reports every year. ApplicationsApplications for the grants will be accepted only through the auspices of one of the hospitals in the north.The applications should contain:
- The candidate’s Curriculum Vitae and List of Publications.
- Commitment of the Hospital to employ the candidate and allow him/her to dedicate to research 50% of his working hours.
- The research proposal to be led by the Candidate.
Assistance
The grant will be given to the institutions that employ the candidates.
The grant is for a period of 3 years as follows:
- The first year – the whole cost of employment as a researcher and as a clinical doctor.
- The second and third years – the cost of 50% employment as a researcher.
- A further 50,000 NIS will be granted the first year for research expenses.
